Presentation Abstract:

Allstate Insurance Company is using portfolio management tools to develop a comprehensive view of its technology portfolio. As part of this effort Allstate is developing common processes across its technology organizations to create the foundation for future strengthening of IT governance and portfolio management processes. These new processes will provide a single repository and source of IT project management artifacts and data and enable a consolidated dashboard that shows the availability of technology services, status of programs and projects -- both to technology partners and leadership. The overall effort, known as Enterprise Portfolio Management, bridges many processes, toolsets, and current initiatives to allow for optimal decision-making, which affects the technology portfolio. Ultimately, this combination will provide Allstate IT leaders with better access to and understanding of their entire portfolio, improving their ability to make strategic portfolio planning decisions and articulate them to internal and external clients. This presentation will review the journey of how Allstate arrived at the decision to tackle this subject, the vision of where it's headed, lessons learned to date and critical success factors.
